In 2015, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) launched the #IBelong initiative to raise awareness about the 10 million people who have fled or lost their homes and are “stateless.” The campaign was designed to illustrate how statelessness hinders access to education, healthcare, and other services. In this video we see various stateless individuals sharing about their experiences of statelessness.

What are the demographics of the people we see in the video?
What do these refugees and migrants tell us about being stateless? How does it impact their daily lives and opportunities?
When the campaign launched, the UNHCR created a goal to end statelessness by 2024. Do you think they’ve achieved that goal? What factors might impact its success or failure?
Can you think of other media campaigns tied to a political issue? Or sponsored by an NGO or nonprofit organization?
